The last show of the T20 Women’s Cricket 2024 World Cup was between New Zealand and South Africa. The match was played at an exciting venue, with the crowd that followed both sides keen to be the first to get their hands on the T20 World Cup trophy.
New Zealand Innings:
The hosts were asked to bat first after winning the toss. The top four batsmen made a good start for the team with Suzie Bates and Sophie DIvine scoring first and second fast. Bates came in and played a maiden innings of 48 off 38 balls, Devine also played a responsible innings of 34 of 27 balls.
The highlight of the New Zealand women’s cricket team’s lower order was Amelia Kerr. Kerr batted at a fiery rate of 33 off 27 balls and then one of the great accumulators of the game in the final overs with vital fours. They contained the innings of New Zealand, which posted a fighting 155/6 in the given 20 overs.
South Africa bowlers- Shabnim Ismail and Ayabonga Khaka bowled leading economical spells in middle overs and took vital wickets but Kiwi batters have better applause for their late-order rescue.
South Africa Innings:
Well ahead to beat 156 for, South Africa began beautifully. Laura Wolvaardt their best batter started off really well by scoring 33 off 27. But New Zealand’s batting slipped out of gear soon as Kerr and Tahuhu bowled tightly.
Kerr, already the shining light for her side, bowled well to claim three wickets for 21 runs in four overs, getting rid of Wolvaardt and Marizanne Kapp. Tahuhu came in handy and picked 2 wickets putting pressure on the South African side who could not get the needed run rate.
South Africa's middle order failed to go big and, after a coming-of-age knock by Chloe Tryon (25 off 18 balls), they somehow managed to falter at the end. The Proteas were bowled out for 123 for eight, 32 runs short of the Indian total.
New Zealand took a 32-run victory to secure their first Women's and T20’s World Cup affiliation title. Amelia Kerr was once again one of the best players in the New Zealand final. Her overall high performance earned her the Player of the Match title, and she was also among the top performers of the tournament.
